Traffic Court Records in Fond du Lac County
Traffic cases in Fond du Lac County split into two channels. Lakeside Municipal Court takes municipal ordinance violations plus many noncriminal citations for its member municipalities. Wisconsin Circuit Court, Fond du Lac County, handles the rest. That includes criminal traffic routed to the county. Trust the court designation on the citation. The road, the issuing town, or where the driver lives will steer you wrong far more often.
The two courts keep separate records, too. Lakeside holds its own municipal citation and plea record. The Fond du Lac County Clerk of Courts holds circuit entries, public files, and copy requests. A public circuit case may show up in WCCA. A municipal ticket does not become a WCCA matter just because Lakeside holds a Fond du Lac appearance in the same Government Center the circuit court uses.
Fond du Lac Traffic Court Fork
Before you search or pay, read the court name printed on the citation. Ripon's official citation instructions lay out the local fork clearly. Lakeside takes municipal ordinance and noncriminal traffic matters. But a traffic crime marked “Fond du Lac County Circuit Court - Intake” cannot use that online municipal payment path. An appearance is required.
| Citation Route | Record Custodian | First Check |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal ordinance or noncriminal traffic | Lakeside Municipal Court or the named joint court | Citation date, court address, and plea instructions |
| Circuit criminal traffic | Fond du Lac County Clerk of Courts | WCCA record and county traffic clerk |
| City parking matter | Fond du Lac Police or City Payments route | Parking ticket and city payment or appeal instructions |
That line matters. It keeps a payment receipt, a municipal plea, and a circuit case from being read as the same kind of record.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
No single public portal covers all Fond du Lac County traffic court records. For a circuit case, WCCA Advanced Search lets you search by county, citation number, case number, offense date, issuing agency, case type, class code, or status. A municipal citation is different. Start with Lakeside or whatever court the ticket names. When the circuit entry is missing, the county traffic office offers a phone and counter fallback.
- Read the citation's court name, citation number, appearance date, and issuing agency.
- For a public circuit case, select Fond du Lac County in WCCA and search the exact citation or case number.
- If the number is unknown, use the available public party, date, case-type, or issuing-agency fields.
- For a Lakeside matter, call the municipal court or use its current written plea and appearance instructions.
- Call the county traffic clerk or visit the circuit clerk counter when a circuit citation has not appeared or the file itself is needed.
- Record the current date, time, court location, status, and next required response from the court source.
Fond du Lac County traffic staff list (920) 929-3030, (920) 929-3031, and (920) 929-3039. The general clerk counter sits on the second floor at 160 S. Macy Street.
Fond du Lac Payment Search Fields
WCCA's online payment form is narrower than a full docket search. You must select Fond du Lac County first. Then the form accepts a case number. A citation number also works, as do party or business name, date of birth, or a payment-plan filter. Results may list the case number, county, caption, balance, due date, and a payment route. Juvenile and confidential obligations stay hidden.
| Field | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| County | Select Fond du Lac for the circuit obligation | Required and limited to one county |
| Case or citation number | Exact reference for an indexed matter | May not locate a municipal ticket |
| Party or business name | Fallback when the number is unknown | Common names need careful confirmation |
| Payment plans | Show only qualifying plan results | Not a full case-status search |
The official WCCA online payment source shows these county and citation controls.
The form can identify a payable circuit balance. It will not override a citation that calls for an appearance, and it cannot replace the municipal court record.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
For a municipal citation, Lakeside prints the date and time in the upper-left part of the ticket. Circuit cases indexed in WCCA take more care. Compare the citation against the case detail page and the Traffic-only calendar filter. Court Official, Attorney, and Law Enforcement calendar modes each cap queries at a seven-day range. One caution applies to both courts. An old setting can linger in the chronological register after a new date is entered. So confirm the newest entry and notice.
| Citation Number | Use the exact number on the ticket; if WCCA assigns a circuit number, save that too, such as the state-style 2022CF783. |
|---|---|
| Court | Lakeside or another named municipal court, or Wisconsin Circuit Court, Fond du Lac County. |
| Date and Time | The appearance or hearing setting from the current citation, notice, or docket. |
| Location | The specific room and address shown for that event, not merely a general courthouse address. |
| Activity | The court's exact label for initial appearance, pretrial, motion, plea, trial, sentencing, or traffic activity. |
| Status | The current pending, disposed, payment, or other public court status, without guessing beyond the entry. |
Where the hearing happens varies. Fond du Lac municipal initial appearances and trials may use the first-floor Legislative Chambers at 160 S. Macy Street, while Lakeside's court address is 16 Garfield Street in North Fond du Lac. The event notice controls.
Lakeside Traffic Record Route
Lakeside is a joint municipal court, not a countywide WCCA search page. The court is at 16 Garfield Street, North Fond du Lac, WI 54937. The phone is (920) 924-2479. Email works too: municourt@nfdl.org. The court permits a written plea before the hearing. It also asks anyone who needs a new date to call. Contact the court before the scheduled one. Skip the plea or the appearance and default judgment can follow.
The official Lakeside Municipal Court page posts the joint-court contact and local appearance instructions.
When a municipal matter is absent from the circuit system, the court page plus the citation is the right source. Waupun needs its own check. The city straddles the county line. Its municipal court sits under a Dodge County joint arrangement. For a Waupun citation, the court name, address, and phone control. Never assume every local ticket belongs in Fond du Lac County.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Follow the current instruction from the court named on the ticket. Lakeside's written plea route offers guilty, not guilty, and no-contest choices. A circuit-intake traffic crime may require an appearance. The municipal route may not accept payment for it. Remember that payment, a written plea, and a court appearance each carry distinct effects. A payment search alone tells you nothing certain about the case result.
| Paying or Resolving as Directed | Contesting the Citation |
|---|---|
| Use the court and payment method printed on the citation or current order. | Enter a not-guilty plea through the method and deadline stated by the named court. |
| Confirm whether payment constitutes the plea or disposition for that ticket. | Keep the hearing or trial notice and verify any later setting change. |
| County code 2031 applies to the county route; do not substitute an old municipal code. | A circuit-intake citation may require appearance rather than an online response. |
Missed Fond du Lac Traffic Date: Contact the court named on the citation right away. Local sources point to possible default judgment or further court action, but not to one universal fee, warrant, or license-hold outcome.
Hold onto the original ticket plus any payment confirmation you receive. If you are unsure whether a plea, payment, or appearance went through, the court can confirm what was processed and what step comes next on the docket.
Fond du Lac Traffic Education Route
Fond du Lac Police runs a local Traffic Education Program. It covers minor, non-accident, noncriminal traffic matters. To qualify, you need a valid Wisconsin license. You must have no traffic conviction in the prior year. The program allows no more than one use in three years. The form and $100 go to the police department within ten days, care of Lakeside Municipal Court. Program staff make the final eligibility call. The official Fond du Lac Traffic Education Program source spells out the terms and the submission route.
This program covers a local citation path only, not a general fix for circuit cases. Criminal traffic and any ticket outside the stated criteria stay with the court process named on them.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two different offices keep these two files. The court record documents the citation case itself. It covers the court, the charge or ordinance, the plea, settings, disposition, orders, and financial entries. Wisconsin's licensing agency keeps the state driver file under a separate system. Use a court search to understand the court event. It is not a stand-in for a licensing record.
| Court Traffic Record | State Driver File | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Lakeside or named municipal court, or Fond du Lac County Clerk of Courts | Wisconsin state licensing agency |
| Shows | Citation, plea, court date, disposition, order, and case financial entries | Licensing entries governed by the state record system |
| Access Route | Citation, court contact, WCCA where indexed, and clerk copy request | The agency's own record-request channel |
A missing municipal ticket in WCCA proves nothing about the municipal court file. A public circuit result likewise leaves out some filed documents. Ask the proper office for the specific record you need.
Fond du Lac Parking Records Differ
Fond du Lac Police handles city parking apart from the court docket. Its official route lists RMCPay online, City Payments at 160 S. Macy Street, and mail to PO Box 150. Parking questions go to (920) 322-3460. Appeals follow the city's stated online or letter and email route, with citation and plate information included. These steps involve a city parking ticket. They are not a criminal traffic filing or a Lakeside docket search. The county offers no red-light or speed-camera docket portal. Route an actual notice by its issuer and court designation. If a parking screen takes your payment, save the receipt and ticket number. For court status, contact the office named on the citation.
Fees and Copies
The Fond du Lac County circuit clerk provides plain and certified copies of public circuit traffic records. The state fee chart lists $1.25 per page. It adds a $5 certification charge on top of page fees. Municipal record requests follow Lakeside's current instructions. The WCCA payment screen adds a convenience fee through its payment provider. The percentage is not fixed, so expect it to vary.
| Traffic Record Item | Amount | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Plain circuit copy | $1.25 per page | Public Fond du Lac County circuit record |
| Certified circuit copy | $5 certification plus $1.25 per page | Clerk-authenticated circuit record |
| Judgment or lien docket item | $5 | State fee chart item where applicable |
| Traffic Education Program | $100 | Only under current eligibility and program terms |
| General municipal fine schedule | Fee not located in official sources | Use the citation and current Lakeside instruction |
County payment code 2031 and code 1503 on the Lakeside form are not interchangeable. The Lakeside form's percentage examples date from 2020 and may not reflect current charges. Verify all fees with the relevant court before paying.
When Fond du Lac Payment Fails
An online payment can fail for several reasons. The ticket may require an appearance, sit in a municipal court outside WCCA, not have posted yet, be confidential, or use a different citation route. Check the court name and number again. For circuit matters, compare WCCA with the county traffic clerk. Lakeside tickets go to Lakeside. Waupun tickets go to the joint court listed on the citation.
Never let a failed payment attempt eat up your response period. Ask the court what step is required. A written plea may work, or a personal appearance may be needed. If a hearing date moved, rely on the newest court entry and notice, since an older pandemic-era virtual-hearing page is not current authority.
Note: a payment page is only an administrative channel. The citation and the court's latest order control the required response.
