Searching Cases by Name
Wisconsin's official Circuit Court Access search is the first stop for public Fond du Lac County Circuit Court information. Set the County field to Fond du Lac. Then enter a last and first name. Or switch to Business name when a company is the party. Middle-name and birth-date filters can thin out common names. Add those identifiers only when you need them.
- Choose Fond du Lac in the County field before entering a name.
- Enter the last name, then first name, and add a middle name only if it helps distinguish results.
- Use the missing-middle-name or missing-birth-date checkbox when a narrow query omits likely matches.
- Compare the caption, filing date, status, and county, then open the detail link.
- Save the exact case number before asking the clerk for a pleading, order, or certified copy.
Run statewide and you may pull lookalike names from dozens of counties. Before treating a hit as the right one, confirm the filing county and the caption match your Fond du Lac County case.
Fond du Lac Simple Search Fields
The blank WCCA case-search screen lays out the public fields without exposing any private party record.

Case number, personal-name fields, birth date, and business name each sit in their own box. That layout invites a focused docket query rather than a vague sweep for everything about one person.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| County | Select | No | Narrow to Fond du Lac County |
| Case number | Text | No | Cleanest known-case query |
| Last, first, middle | Text | No | Party-name search |
| Birth date | Date | No | Distinguishes public results when necessary |
| Business name | Text | No | Searches an organization party |
Searching by Case Number
A case number is the fastest way to run a Fond du Lac County case search. Wisconsin circuit numbers mix a four-digit filing year, a case-type code, and a sequence, like 2022CF783. Here 2022 marks the filing year. CF signals a criminal felony, and 783 is the sequence. Copy every letter and leading zero exactly as the notice or record shows them.
The codes keep case groups apart. A criminal felony number is not a federal number. It is not a municipal citation or an appellate number either. If your search returns another county, check the caption and county field. Do not assume the case moved. Older matters can also be spotty. Wisconsin counties adopted CCAP at different times, and they never backloaded every historic court record the same way.
Fond du Lac Advanced Search
The WCCA Advanced Search helps when you know the case type or date but not a party name. You can query by case number and ranges, case type, status, filing and disposition dates, class codes, attorney data, citation number, district attorney case number, issuing agency, and offense date. It trades simplicity for precision.

One limit is built in. Date-range controls cap each search at 30 days. So a year-long look at Fond du Lac County filings means running monthly queries, and the issuing-agency choices shift depending on the county selected.
Search tip. Citation number, DA case number, and issuing agency can separate a circuit traffic or criminal search from a municipal ticket route.
What a Case Search Returns
A Fond du Lac County result row can display the case number, filing date, county name, case status, party name, a public birth-date value or "Date of Birth Sealed," the caption, and a detail link. Open the case view for more. Parties, attorneys, charges or causes of action, chronological entries, settings, disposition, judgment, and public financial fields may all appear. A missing block just means it was restricted. It may also mean it was never filled in.
| Case Number | The year, case-type code, and sequence used to locate the circuit record. |
|---|---|
| Caption | The official case title naming the parties or matter. |
| Case Type | The circuit category, such as criminal, civil, family, or small claims. |
| Filed Date | The date the court record began, not the date of every later event. |
| Status | The current public open, closed, or disposed label, subject to later action. |
| Register of Actions | The time-ordered list of public filings, hearings, orders, and disposition entries. |
WCCA is an index and a display, nothing more. It does not hand the public the underlying eFiled documents, and a screen print is not a certified court record.
When Fond du Lac Results Vanish
A dead-end result does not always mean no case exists. Recheck the county, the spelling, the business-name field, the case-type code, and the filing period. Strip out a middle name or birth date if the query was too tight. In advanced mode, keep every date span within 30 days. A municipal citation may never show up in the circuit search. An appeal lives in WSCCA instead.
Still nothing? Call the Clerk of Circuit Court service area that handles the matter. You can also use the main line at (920) 929-3038. The public can review available court records at the second-floor clerk counter, 160 S. Macy Street, Fond du Lac. Counter hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except holidays. A mailed request should state the case number and caption. Include the document wanted and whether a regular or certified copy is needed.
Note: WCCA updates hourly and runs nightly maintenance. A brand-new filing may lag before it appears.
Statewide vs County Case Search
Fond du Lac County runs no separate public portal for circuit cases. WCCA serves as both the statewide docket search and the county-filtered circuit index. The real choice is between three routes. One is a broad Wisconsin query. Another is a Fond du Lac-filtered query. The third is the clerk's official file. Appeals sit in a different system altogether.
| WCCA statewide | WCCA Fond du Lac filter | Clerk file |
|---|---|---|
| Finds public circuit matches across counties | Limits results to the selected county | Holds public filed documents and official copies |
| Best when filing county is unknown | Best for a known local circuit case | Best for a pleading, order, judgment, or certification |
| Index-level public detail | Same system with local scope | Access depends on record law and court restrictions |
When you need a current hearing rather than the full docket, turn to the Fond du Lac County court calendar. Then compare it against the newest case entry to be sure nothing shifted.
Fond du Lac Appeals Use WSCCA
The Wisconsin case-search landing page splits circuit cases in WCCA from Supreme Court and Court of Appeals cases. Fond du Lac County appeals go to District II of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Those live in WSCCA.

That separate appellate screen shows why a circuit number should not be forced into every search box. Federal cases break away too. They leave the Wisconsin portals for PACER and the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Fond du Lac Search Alternatives
WCCA is not the only door. The Fond du Lac County Clerk of Circuit Court takes calls on case status and procedure. The office lets you inspect public files at the counter. It also sells plain or certified copies. Phone, counter, and mail all work well when a portal result is stale, skimpy, or missing. Bring a case number or caption, an approximate year, the record type, and the exact item you want.
One caution: the Wisconsin Circuit Court eFiling system is no substitute for a public docket search. Lawyers, parties, and delegated staff can open documents under "My Cases" according to their role. A public user should not sign up just to dodge a record restriction. Municipal cases belong with Lakeside or the court named on the citation. Federal cases live in PACER. That routing keeps every Fond du Lac County court records request with the office that actually holds it.
Access and Restricted Cases
Public access in Wisconsin has sharp edges. Juvenile delinquency, CHIPS, and termination-of-parental-rights matters may be hidden or absent from an online docket. So can adoption, sealed matters, and confidential addresses. The same goes for restricted financial data, victim or witness details, and juror identifiers. A "Date of Birth Sealed" entry means the public result leaves that field blank. That is a deliberate limit, not a nudge to hunt the birth date somewhere else.
Wis. Stat. §19.35 grants a general inspection right. Section 19.36 and case-specific laws hold the limits in place. Electronic filing and access fall under §801.18, and juvenile confidentiality under §938.396. The court and clerk weigh those statutes, sealing orders, and redaction policy whenever a docket entry gets withheld.
Restricted record. A person seeking authorized access must follow the procedure for that case and any court order. Repeated searches do not change the restriction.
WCCA runs a redaction process for court forms, covering sealing, mistaken identity, address removal, and confidential addresses. But eligibility for any of it is never established through the search portal alone.
